One of my favorite parts of the shoot was to look at everything once the project was complete and come up with the name.
I always wanted to do a hair shoot juxtaposing the similarities between humans and animals by using miniature animals but knew there would be a fine line between being beautiful and being cheesy. I spent months just shopping for little animals and randomly drawing sketches whenever I had a moment of inspiration.
Some of the shots were pretty easy to conceive such as the woman with wet hair and the dolphin. Others like the eagle, were a little more challenging.
I like to go into a shoot like this with 80% of ideas solidly laid out and about 20% open for collaboration with the amazing people I work with on the shoot. I.e. hair, makeup and models.
After feeling satisfied with most of the shots that day, I felt like I wanted to shoot one more look but was stuck. I ended up getting into a conversation with the hair stylist about my recent travels upstate and my first eagle sighting. I was explaining to him that the eagle’s nest was so huge it probably had wifi. That is when it struck me, to do a nest like hair style on the model with the eagle.
It was such a creatively rewarding day and was published in a magazine along with information about eco friendly hair care products. In 2016, I won a bronze in Advertising/Beauty for it from Prix de la Photographie, Paris.
